At the May 2007 American Psychiatric Association's Annual Meeting in San Diego Dr. Kamm will be interviewing Mike Ayala, former professional boxer, who fought for the World Championship on three occasions, and had a substance abuse problem during his career”. Including the classic Danny “Little Red” Lopez and Mike Ayala fight (which was the fight of year (6/17/79)) as part of Symposium 08.
CHECK OUT DR. KAMM'S OPINION RE: THE LATEST TERRELL OWENS INCIDENT UNDER "WHATS NEW" RONALD L. KAMM, M.D. is an Adult and Adolescent Psychiatrist in private practice in New Jersey. Dr. Kamm specializes in Sport Psychiatry and has been lecturing nationally and internationally on this subject since the 1970 's. In addition to consulting with high school and college teams, he has treated elite athletes in all sports, and is currently Sport Psychiatrist to the Jersey Shore Cats of the USBL. Dr. Kamm is currently investigating ways to improve the youth sports experience for our youngest participants, and in 1997 wrote an article for the New York Times titled "Out of Williamsport, Into The Parent Trap." He has also written a chapter about the abuses in Little League Baseball, and in Youth Sports, for the October 1998 issue of Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Clinics of North America (Saunders), and a chapter on "The Sport Psychiatry Examination" for the textbook Sport Psychiatry, published by Norton in October 1999. Dr. Kamm has chaired and presented at international Sport Psychiatry symposia for the past three years. This past year's symposium, held at the American Psychiatric Association's annual meeting in Washington, D.C., was entitled "Psychiatric Disorders in a Special Population: The Athlete." In February, Dr. Kamm presented a paper "Group Dynamics and Athletic Success" at the American Group Psychotherapy's Annual Convention in Los Angeles. Following his presentation, Dr. Kamm chaired a panel of top area coaches and athletes discussing this topic. Dr. Kamm serves on the Medical Advisory Panel of the American Association for the Improvement of Boxing, and is a member of the Board of Directors and is Vice President of the International Society for Sport Psychiatry. He is Vice-President of FIST, Gerry Cooney's non-profit organization that helps boxers at the end of their careers transition to new jobs, thus preventing injury. He is also a member of the USA Gymnastics National Health Care and Sport Science Board of Consultants, and the USA Gymnastics National Referral Network. In June 1998, he was a guest on CBS This Morning News with Mark McEwen, and last year appeared as Dr. Ian Smith's guest on News Center 4, and Lynne Doyle's guest on Comcast Newsmakers.
